FISHING:

Our location on the West Clare peninsula gives access to a wide variety of sea angling venues - rock platforms that shelve in to deep water, gentle sandy beaches, quiet harbour piers, wild Atlantic storm beaches and sheltered estuaries. Bass, mullet, pollack, wrasse and mackerel can be caught locally using varying techniques.

Beachcasting for bass and flatfish, using lugworm or sandeel bait, can be very productive on Doughmore Beach, given the right conditions, even during milder weather in winter. Lugworm can be dug locally and packs of frozen sandeel are available at the local tackle shop.

Carrigaholt and Cappa piers are productive fishing marks and are also quiet safe for children accompanied by an adult. Pollack and sometimes mackerel can be caught in summer and thornback ray, dogfish, bullhuss and whiting during the other seasons.

The rivers and lakes in the area are also well stocked, however all rivers in Clare are closed to salmon and seatrout fishing until further notice, as a conservation measure, but brown trout fishing is permitted (season 1st March to 30th September). The trout are generally small but plentiful.

Guided fishing can be arranged and this includes the provision of life jackets, all tackle required and a packed lunch.                                   Contact James to arrange your trip
